CHEVROLET – MASTER 85 BUSINESS COUPE
- Arrived in Wellington, New Zealand as a C.K.D. vehicle on 24 June 1939, as cargo on the "Kaituna". Production was completed on 5 January 1940, and was driven to the Hastings Hawkes Bay Farmers dealership on 17 January 1940.
- Purchased by Andrew Dykes (Napier) in May 1940, and subsequently converted by Dykes Coach Builder, to a Hearse.
- Arthur Holmes, Funeral Directors in McColl Street, Newmarket, Auckland took ownership of the Hearse on 11 September 1940.
- In 1960 it was sold to Fletcher Brown Funeral Director, and was last registered in 1990.
- It was known as "Queen of the Hearses" in Auckland, and frequented the Waikumete Cemetery on most days!
- In May 2002 Twentymans Funeral Services became the new owners of the vehicle which then had 108131 miles on the Odometer. The hearse was completely stripped, the original motor was rebuilt and the vehicle's interior was refurbished.
- The hearse is available for funerals or for films etc and can be viewed at 709 Pollen Street, Thames by prior arrangement,
- The vehicle is in working order and has been issued with a Transport Safety – Low Volume Vehicle Certification Plate.
